You can apply directly to the University of Adelaide. The MicroMasters credential provides you with a portfolio of studies that, for relevant Master’s programs, provide significant insight into your capabilities through the completion of four online courses and the Capstone assessment. Also, if admitted to a relevant Master’s program of choice, it is possible for students to apply for credit towards the Master’s program on account of successful completion of the MicroMasters credential. Approval of credit in most Masters’ programs is not guaranteed and is usually granted on a case by case basis. Subject to successful admission to the Master of Data Science, Learners who have successfully completed the Big Data MicroMasters credential would be eligible to receive 12 units of credit (48 units are required for a Master of Data Science).
The MicroMasters credential does not guarantee admission to the Master’s degree program. Firstly, you need to complete the application process for the University of Adelaide during which your application is assessed in relation to the admissions criteria that apply for that Master’s program. The Big Data MicroMasters program provides a graduate-level foundation in data science and represents 25% of the coursework toward a Master of Data Science at the University of Adelaide. Learners who are successful in gaining admission to the Master of Data Science would be granted credit in core courses to the value of 12 units on account of successful completion of the four Big Data MicroMasters courses with a minimum overall score of 65% and the Capstone assessment. (48 units are required for a Master of Data Science.) Admission requirements for the Master of Data Science are as follows: Bachelor or equivalent plus University first-year Mathematics (eg equivalent to MATHS 1012 Mathematics IB); applicants from non-English-speaking nations must also meet the University English Language requirements: IELTS Overall band score of 6.5 and Band score of 6.0 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening. Equivalent test scores from TOEFL, Pearson Test of English and Cambridge English: Advanced are also accepted.
Unfortunately, learners from Iran and Cuba will not be able to register for this course. While edX has received a licenses from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to offer courses to learners from these countries, our licenses do not cover this course.
